Cayo Largo del Sur

Cayo Largo del Sur is a small tourist island located in the Canarreos Archipelago, south of Cuba. Historically it remained uninhabited or was seasonally used by fishermen and turtle hunters. Its tourism development began in the 1970s and expanded in the 1980s with the construction of an international airport and hotel resorts. It is known for white sand beaches such as Playa ParaĆ­so and Playa Sirena, as well as its rich marine ecosystem with coral reefs, sea turtles, and migratory birds. Today it operates as a controlled eco-tourism destination focused on conservation and sustainable tourism.

Cayo Largo del Sur is a small key in the Canarreos Archipelago, south of Cuba, known for its pristine white-sand beaches and high ecological value. Its ecosystem integrates mangroves, coastal dunes, seagrass beds, and coral reefs that support rich marine biodiversity. Wildlife includes sea turtles such as the loggerhead and green turtle that nest along its shores, as well as iguanas, pink flamingos, pelicans, and many migratory birds. Vegetation is adapted to salty soils, featuring sea grapes, palms, and shrubs resistant to wind and salinity. The surrounding waters host tropical fish, crustaceans, and coral formations, creating a fragile and highly protected environment essential for Caribbean conservation.

Sirena Beach 

Sirena Beach, located in Cayo Largo del Sur, Cuba, is a long stretch of white sand and calm turquoise waters, widely considered one of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches. Its coastal ecosystem includes dunes, seagrass beds, and nearby mangrove areas that support rich biodiversity. The waters host tropical fish, rays, starfish, sea turtles, and occasional dolphins. Coastal vegetation includes sea grapes, hicacos shrubs, and palm trees. It is part of the broader marine ecosystem of the Canarreos Archipelago.
