The Lookout

The Lookout is one of Guatemala's oldest and most monumental Maya archaeological sites, located in the northern PetĂ©n jungle near Flores. It flourished during the Preclassic period (600 BC–AD 150) and is renowned for its massive architecture, including La Danta, one of the largest pyramids in the world by volume. Surrounded by a vast natural reserve, El Mirador offers a unique experience that blends ancient history, archaeological discovery, and deep immersion in the Maya rainforest.

The site is renowned for La Danta pyramid, one of the largest structures in the world by volume, reflecting the Maya's advanced architectural and engineering skills. El Mirador features extensive causeways, sophisticated water management systems, and large-scale urban planning. Abandoned for centuries and rediscovered in the 20th century, it remains a remote jungle site, essential for understanding the early development and rise of Maya civilization.
