Built over the ruins of an ancient monastery, it was transformed by King Ferdinand II into a colorful royal residence with eclectic architecture. Castelo dos Mouros

The Castelo dos Mouros, located on the Sintra hill in Portugal, is an eighth century fortress built by Muslim forces during the Islamic occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Its strategic position overlooks the Sintra Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean.
