Tromsø
Tromsø, located in northern Norway within the Arctic Circle, has been a key center for Arctic exploration since the 19th century. Known as the "Gateway to the Arctic," it expanded through scientific expeditions and maritime trade. Its subarctic ecosystem blends tundra, mountains, and fjords. Flora includes dwarf birch, mosses, and lichens adapted to cold conditions. Fauna features reindeer, Arctic foxes, whales, and seabirds. Winter brings polar night, while summer's midnight sun enhances biological productivity and supports diverse seasonal life cycles across the region.

Tromsø
The city of Tromsø, located north of the Arctic Circle in Norway, has a rich history linked to polar exploration and trade since its founding in 1794. Known as the "Gateway to the Arctic," it served as a major base for expeditions to the North Pole. Its Arctic ecosystem features long, dark winters and summers with the midnight sun. Flora consists mainly of tundra vegetation, mosses, lichens, and small cold resistant shrubs. In summer, hardy wildflowers bloom. Fauna includes reindeer, Arctic foxes, migratory birds, and marine life such as seals and whales. Surrounding fjords and mountains create diverse habitats. This fragile environment is increasingly impacted by climate change, altering biodiversity and natural seasonal cycles.

Polaria
Polaria, opened in 1998 in Tromsø, Norway, is an Arctic center designed as a series of ice like blocks reflecting the polar landscape. It serves as both an aquarium and an educational museum focused on Arctic ecosystem research and outreach. It houses bearded seals and exhibits on climate change, marine life, and scientific expeditions. Its setting reflects northern Norway's biodiversity, where species adapted to extreme cold thrive, emphasizing the importance of conservation and ecological balance in fragile polar environments worldwide.
