Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords National Park, located on the Kenai Peninsula in south-central Alaska, preserves one of North America's most dramatic glacial landscapes. Initially designated a national monument in 1978, it became a national park in 1980 to protect the vast Harding Icefield, one of the largest remaining icefields from the last Ice Age in the United States. Over thousands of years, advancing and retreating glaciers carved deep fjords, U-shaped valleys, and rugged coastlines that define the park's striking geography. The region has a long human history, having been home to the Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) Indigenous peoples, who relied on fishing, hunting, and marine resources for survival. Russian explorers arrived in the eighteenth century, followed later by American explorers and settlers. Today, the park safeguards critical marine and terrestrial ecosystems, supporting brown bears, moose, sea otters, seals, whales, and abundant birdlife. Kenai Fjords also plays an important role in scientific research, offering valuable insight into glacial dynamics and the impacts of climate change on polar and subpolar environments.

Six Mile Creek Rafting
Rafting on Six Mile Creek, near Kenai Fjords National Park in Alaska, USA, is one of the region's most thrilling whitewater adventures. Historically part of early 1900s gold mining country, the creek became popular for commercial rafting in the 1980s under U.S. Forest Service permits. Its steep, glacier-fed waters cut through three canyons with Class IV and V rapids, offering technical and adrenaline-packed runs amid rugged wilderness. The experience blends intense rafting with dramatic mountain scenery.
