Its cobblestone streets and architecture reflect this historic wealth. Surrounding landscapes feature semi-deciduous forests, pine and eucalyptus trees, and shaded coffee plantations. The fauna is rich, including endemic species such as the bee hummingbird, tiny amphibians, and bats, along with birds like parrots and woodpeckers typical of nearby mountain and coastal ecosystems.
