The Yunque National Park

The Yunque National Forest, located in northeastern Puerto Rico, is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. Its lush mountains, waterfalls like La Mina, and scenic trails protect remarkable biodiversity, including the native coquĆ­ frog. Formerly known as the Caribbean National Forest, it was established as a forest reserve in 1903. With humid climate and panoramic views from El Yunque Peak, it remains a treasured ecological and cultural sanctuary.

The Yunque National Park is the only tropical rainforest in the United States National Forest System, located in northeastern Puerto Rico. Scenic trails lead to YokahĆŗ Tower and El Toro Peak. Frequent rainfall sustains its vibrant greenery year-round. The Yunque National Park

The Yunque National Forest, located in northeastern Puerto Rico, is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. Originally protected by the Spanish Crown in 1876 as a forest reserve, it came under U.S. administration in 1898 and was designated a national forest in 1903. Its name derives from the Taƭno word "YukƩ," linked to an indigenous deity. Covering over 28,000 acres, the forest features lush vegetation, waterfalls such as La Mina, cloud forests, and remarkable biodiversity, including the iconic coquƭ frog and many endemic species. Scenic trails, observation towers, and historic structures allow visitors to experience this vital Caribbean ecosystem.
