Old Quarter of Panama
Panama's Casco Antiguo, also known as Casco Viejo, is located on a small peninsula at the Pacific entrance of the Panama Canal. Founded in 1673 after the destruction of Panama Viejo, it became the political, religious, and commercial heart of the colonial city. Its cobblestone streets preserve churches, convents, and plazas featuring Spanish, French, and neoclassical architecture, shaped by centuries of cultural exchange. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Casco Antiguo is now a vibrant district where history blends with contemporary life. Its coastal surroundings include nearby mangroves, seabirds, and urban wildlife adapted to the tropical climate, supporting local biodiversity. From its historic walls, visitors can admire the ocean, the Cinta Costera, and the striking contrast between the old city and Panama's modern skyline.

Church of Saint Joseph
The Church of Saint Joseph is a historic Catholic church in Panama City's Casco Antiguo, built between 1671 and 1677 after the original Panama Viejo was destroyed by pirates. It houses the famed "Golden Altar," a baroque mahogany retablo covered in gold leaf from the 18th century, surrounded by legend about its survival from pirate attacks. The church showcases colonial architecture and stands as one of Panama's most emblematic religious monuments, reflecting the city's early history and enduring cultural heritage.
