Madrid

Madrid, capital of Spain, lies on the Central Plateau and blends urban history with continental Mediterranean ecosystems. Since medieval origins, expansion reshaped woodlands into dehesa landscapes and parks like Casa de Campo and El Retiro Park. Vegetation features holm oaks, pines, and rockroses. Fauna includes foxes, rabbits, and birds such as hoopoes and kites. The Manzanares River structures ecological corridors, vital for urban biodiversity and sustainable conservation today.

Madrid, the capital of Spain, has a history dating back to the 9th century when it was founded as a Moorish fortress. After the Christian Reconquest, it became a political center, especially under Philip II. Its ecosystem blends urban areas with natural spaces such as Casa de Campo and El Retiro Park. The flora features holm oaks, pines, and Mediterranean vegetation adapted to a continental climate. Urban fauna includes sparrows, pigeons, and small mammals, illustrating the balance between human development and the natural environment.

Madrid

Madrid, the capital of Spain, has a history dating back to the 9th century when it was founded as the Muslim fortress of Mayrit. After the Christian Reconquest, it grew into a Castilian town and became the royal court in 1561 under Philip II. Its ecosystem blends dense urban areas with natural spaces such as Retiro Park and the nearby Sierra de Guadarrama. Flora features holm oaks, pines, and Mediterranean shrubs, while fauna includes birds like magpies and eagles, as well as mammals such as foxes and wild boars in surrounding areas. The continental Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and cold winters, shapes biodiversity. Madrid represents a balance between urban growth and environmental preservation.

Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish monarchy, though it is now mainly used for state ceremonies. Construction began in 1738 under Philip V after the old AlcƔzar burned down in 1734. Built in a classical Baroque style, it features over 3,000 rooms and richly decorated halls showcasing works by Francisco Goya and Diego VelƔzquez. Located in the heart of Madrid, it stands as a symbol of Spain's royal heritage and historical power.
