Stonehenge is a prehistoric megalithic monument located on Salisbury Plain, built between 3000 and 2000 B.C. Its massive stones, arranged in circles, reveal advanced knowledge of astronomy and funerary rituals. The surrounding ecosystem consists of calcareous grassland, featuring wild grasses, flowers such as orchids, and wildlife including foxes, rabbits, and migratory birds. This protected landscape preserves unique biodiversity shaped by centuries of human interaction and natural processes, making it both a cultural and ecological treasure today.

Stonehenge

The megalithic complex of Stonehenge, located on Salisbury Plain, dates from around 3000–2000 B.C. and was built in several phases during the Neolithic and Bronze Age. Its massive sarsen and bluestones reveal sophisticated transport methods and astronomical alignment with solstices. The surrounding environment is chalk grassland, one of Europe's most biodiverse habitats, featuring grasses, wild orchids, and aromatic herbs. Local fauna includes skylarks, small mammals, and numerous pollinating insects. This ecosystem is carefully preserved as both a cultural and natural heritage site, balancing archaeological conservation with the protection of native biodiversity.

Stonehenge

Stonehenge is one of the world's most iconic prehistoric monuments, located on Salisbury Plain near London. Built between roughly 3000 and 2000 B.C., this circle of massive megalithic stones demonstrates sophisticated knowledge of astronomy and social organization among Neolithic communities. It is believed to have served ceremonial and funerary purposes, as well as acting as a solar observatory aligned with the solstices. The surrounding environment consists of chalk grassland ecosystems, with nutrient rich soils that support diverse plant life, including wild grasses and orchids. The fauna includes birds such as skylarks and small mammals adapted to open habitats. This landscape has been carefully preserved as both a cultural and natural heritage site, illustrating the deep relationship between ancient human societies and their environment.

Neolithic Houses

Neolithic houses near Stonehenge, in Wiltshire, reflect the shift from nomadic groups to settled communities around 3000 B.C. Built with timber, clay, and thatched roofs, these circular dwellings formed small villages. Excavations at sites like Durrington Walls reveal evidence of communal living, rituals, and early farming practices. These homes illustrate a complex society that developed social organization and spiritual traditions closely tied to the surrounding sacred landscape.
