Chichén Itzá is one of the most important archaeological sites in Mesoamerica, located in the northern Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. Founded around the 6th century AD, it became a major Maya city that reached its peak between the 9th and 13th centuries. The city shows strong cultural influences from central Mexico, reflected in its architectural styles and religious iconography. Chichén Itzá demonstrates advanced knowledge of astronomy, mathematics, and cosmology. The Temple of Kukulkán, also known as El Castillo, is famous for the equinox phenomenon, when light and shadow create the illusion of a descending feathered serpent. Other notable structures include the Great Ball Court, the Observatory known as El Caracol, and the Sacred Cenote, used for ceremonial offerings. Chichén Itzá served as a major political, economic, and ceremonial center and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Cenote Ik Ki, Chichen Itza
Ik Kil Cenote, located a few kilometers from Chichén Itzá, is one of the most iconic cenotes in Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. Formed by the collapse of limestone bedrock, it drops about 26 meters to a clear freshwater pool surrounded by hanging vines and lush vegetation. For the ancient Maya, cenotes were sacred sites believed to be gateways to the underworld and essential sources of water. Ik Kil is thought to have been used for ceremonial rituals, reflecting the Maya civilization's deep spiritual and cultural connection with nature.
