Plaza Las Delicias & Ponce Cathedral

Plaza Las Delicias is the historic and social heart of Ponce, laid out in the 19th century as the city's civic center and cultural gathering place. Surrounded by neoclassical and Creole architecture, it features fountains, shaded walkways, and landmark buildings that reflect Ponce's prosperity during the sugar boom era. Facing the square stands the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, originally founded in the 17th century as a modest parish church. Rebuilt several times after earthquakes and fires, its present structure blends neoclassical and baroque elements. With its twin towers and dignified interior, the cathedral represents the spiritual and historical identity of Ponce and remains a central venue for religious ceremonies and major civic events in southern Puerto Rico.
