Troya

Troya, associated with the legendary Trojan War, lies near the Dardanelles Strait in northwestern Türkiye. Inhabited for over four millennia, the site preserves archaeological remains from successive civilizations and is recognized as a World Heritage location. Its ecosystem features Mediterranean hills, fertile plains, and seasonal wetlands. Native vegetation includes pine trees, oaks, thyme, and wild olives. Local wildlife consists of foxes, hares, tortoises, migratory birds, reptiles, and numerous insects, creating a diverse and ecologically significant natural environment.

Troya is one of the world's most significant archaeological sites, located in northwestern Türkiye near the Dardanelles Strait. Continuously inhabited from around 3000 BCE, Troy became an important center of trade and cultural exchange between Europe and Asia. The city is traditionally associated with the legendary Trojan War described in ancient literature. Archaeological excavations have revealed several layers of settlement, demonstrating thousands of years of urban development and human activity. The surrounding environment is shaped by a Mediterranean climate, fertile plains, and coastal influences from the nearby strait. Local flora includes pine trees, evergreen oaks, wild olive trees, mastic shrubs, and aromatic Mediterranean vegetation. The fauna features foxes, hares, wild boars, turtles, reptiles, and many migratory bird species traveling between Europe, Asia, and Africa. The regional ecosystem combines woodlands, grasslands, wetlands, and coastal habitats, supporting rich biodiversity and significant ecological value alongside its remarkable historical heritage.



Trojan Horse Statue

The Trojan Horse Statue, located in Çanakkale, is one of the city's most famous landmarks and a tribute to the legendary story of the Trojan War. The statue on display today was used in the film Troy (2004) and was later donated to the city. Positioned near the Dardanelles Strait, it highlights the historical and archaeological significance of nearby Troy. The surrounding area blends coastal and urban landscapes that support seabirds, fish species, and Mediterranean vegetation, showcasing the ecological diversity that characterizes this important region of northwestern Turkey.
