National Art Museum of the Bahamas
The National Art Gallery of The Bahamas, often called the NAGB, is located in Nassau in the historic Villa Doyle on West and West Hill Streets. It was the first institution of its kind in Bahamian history and was announced in 1996 by then Prime Minister Hubert A. Ingraham as part of a broader national effort to record and preserve the story of the independent country, which gained sovereignty in 1973. The villa itself dates to the 1860s, when it was built for Sir William Henry Doyle; after years of neglect, it was restored through the 1990s and opened as a public gallery in 2003. Today the museum holds a collection of more than 500 works and promotes Bahamian identity through exhibitions, educational programs, and community outreach. Its blend of heritage building and contemporary art makes it a key cultural landmark for visitors and residents alike in downtown Nassau today.


Bay Street & Straw Market
Bay Street & Straw Market, located in Nassau, Bahamas, form the historic commercial center of the capital city. Bay Street has been since the British colonial period the main commercial artery hosting shops, banks and government buildings. Nearby, the Straw Market developed as an artisan market where local vendors sell handmade goods especially straw crafts, souvenirs and carvings. After repeated reconstruction due to fires and hurricanes, it remains a cultural and tourist symbol reflecting Bahamian identity. It is a major stop for cruise passengers visiting Nassau downtown area today widely.
