Santiago of Compostela
Santiago of Compostela is Galicia's historic capital and the Camino de Santiago's final destination since the 9th century, after the reputed discovery of the apostle's remains. Its UNESCO listed old town grew around the Romanesque cathedral. The surrounding landscape has a humid Atlantic climate: forests of oaks, chestnuts, and eucalyptus, with abundant ferns and mosses. Wildlife includes foxes, wild boar, forest birds, and amphibians. Rivers like the Sarela support a lush, diverse ecosystem shaped by year-round rainfall.

Its name comes from the stonemasons' workshops that shaped the Baroque façade of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in the 18th century. Surrounded by historic landmarks such as the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, the Raxoi Palace, and the San Xerome College, it reflects centuries of faith, history, and cultural identity.
