Its name means "Home of the Giants," inspired by Norse mythology. The park contains the highest peaks in Northern Europe, including Galdhøpiggen and Glittertind. Its landscape features glacial valleys, crystal-clear lakes, rugged cliffs, and vast alpine tundra. The flora includes lichens, mosses, dwarf birch trees, and hardy wildflowers adapted to harsh winters and short summers. Wildlife in the park includes wild reindeer, moose, Arctic foxes, wolverines, and golden eagles. Rivers and icy lakes support trout and other cold water species. Beyond its ecological importance, Jotunheimen also holds strong cultural value, with centuries old mountain routes historically used by Norwegian communities, explorers, and hikers who continue to visit the park for trekking, climbing, and nature observation throughout the year.

Vettisfossen
Vettisfossen is one of Norway's most spectacular waterfalls, featuring a free fall of nearly 275 meters. Located in the Årdal valley within the mountainous landscape of Jotunheimen National Park, it became famous during the nineteenth century among explorers and Romantic painters. Its waters originate from glacial melt, sustaining alpine ecosystems rich in mosses, lichens, and Nordic birch forests. The surrounding region supports wildlife such as Arctic foxes, reindeer, and birds of prey. Protected for its scenic, ecological, and cultural importance, the area remains one of Scandinavia's most iconic natural environments.
