Andong Hahoe

Hahoe Folk Village, located in Andong, South Korea, is a traditional settlement of the Joseon Dynasty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010. It is founded by the Ryu clan and preserves traditional hanok houses, Confucian academies, and original village structures. The village is surrounded by the Nakdong River, creating a harmonious landscape shaped by traditional pungsu principles. It remains a living community known for cultural traditions such as the Hahoe mask dance and for producing notable Confucian scholars still preserved and inhabited today.

Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010, it represents Confucian aristocratic culture and rural Korean heritage. The village features tiled-roof houses and thatched homes, preserving historical settlement patterns. It is also famous for the Hahoe Byeolsin-gut mask dance, a ritual performance combining theater and shamanistic tradition. Surrounded by the Nakdong River and natural hills, the village maintains a living cultural landscape that continues to attract visitors from around the world today widely.

Andong Hahoe

Andong Hahoe is one of the most important traditional villages from the Joseon Dynasty in South Korea. Historically, Hahoe served as a center for Confucian scholarship, ancestral rites, and traditional masked performances such as Byeolsin-gut Talnori. Wolyeonggyo Bridge Originally inspired by traditional Korean wooden architecture and rebuilt in modern times, it represents harmony between heritage and landscape. The bridge spans an ecologically rich river corridor supporting migratory birds, riparian vegetation, and aquatic biodiversity. Its wooden structure blends with surrounding hills and water, creating scenic views. Wolyeonggyo also serves as a cultural landmark, attracting visitors and promoting environmental awareness and preservation of the Nakdong River ecosystem in the Andong region and sustainable tourism development overall.
