GoldenPass Express

The GoldenPass Express, based in Montreux, Switzerland, is a luxury panoramic train linking Lake Geneva with Interlaken through the Swiss Alps. Launched in 2022, it fulfills a long-standing 19th-century vision of connecting key tourist regions such as Montreux, Gstaad, and the lakes of Thun and Brienz. Its key innovation is a variable-gauge system that automatically adapts the train between metre and standard gauge tracks at Zweisimmen, eliminating transfers. Ecologically, it supports sustainable tourism by encouraging low-emission rail travel, reducing road traffic, and helping preserve fragile alpine and lake ecosystems through controlled, efficient transport.
