Inhabited since antiquity, its medieval towns, fortresses, and harbors reflect Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences. The Mediterranean ecosystem includes pine forests, cypress trees, olive groves, and wild aromatic herbs. Its coastal waters are home to sea turtles, reef fish, and migratory birds. The warm climate supports diverse biodiversity and landscapes of high ecological importance, preserved through protected reserves and mountainous natural areas across the island.

Rodas

Rodas
Rhodes, the largest island of the Dodecanese archipelago, has a history shaped by Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman civilizations. Its medieval city, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, preserves stone walls, castles, and narrow streets built by the Knights of Saint John during the 14th century. Rhodes features a diverse ecosystem with pine forests, cypress trees, olive groves, rocky hills, and crystal clear beaches. The island supports Mediterranean wildlife including foxes, hedgehogs, sea turtles, and migratory birds. The famous Valley of the Butterflies is known for its humid habitat and remarkable biodiversity. Its warm climate encourages aromatic vegetation and endemic plant species adapted to island environments.

Rodas
Rhodes is the largest island of the Dodecanese archipelago and has a history spanning more than two thousand years. Due to its strategic position in the Aegean Sea, it became a major maritime and commercial center during Antiquity. The island flourished in the Hellenistic era with the construction of the legendary Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Rhodes was later ruled by Romans, Byzantines, the Knights of Saint John, and the Ottoman Empire, all of whom left remarkable architectural and cultural influences. The island's ecosystem features mountains, pine and cypress forests, olive groves, rocky coastlines, and crystal-clear beaches. Its flora includes wild orchids, aromatic herbs, and Mediterranean flowers. The fauna is equally diverse, with fallow deer, sea turtles, migratory birds, and butterflies, especially within the renowned Valley of the Butterflies, an important ecological sanctuary rich in biodiversity.

Elli Beach
Elli Beach is one of the most iconic beaches on the island of Rhodes. Located near the medieval town, it became popular during the Italian occupation in the early twentieth century, when seaside hotels and leisure areas were developed along the Aegean coast. Its shoreline blends sand and pebbles with remarkably clear waters rich in Mediterranean marine biodiversity. The ecosystem includes coastal fish, seabirds, and underwater seagrass habitats that support water quality and marine balance. Sunny weather and sea breezes encourage sustainable activities such as swimming, walking, and nature observation along the Greek shoreline.
