Cinque Terre
The Cinque Terre, in Liguria, is a group of five coastal villages recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when farming communities built terraces to grow vineyards and olives on steep slopes. Its Mediterranean ecosystem includes flora such as pines, holm oaks, and aromatic shrubs, and fauna like seabirds and small mammals. The balance between traditional human activity and nature shapes its distinctive landscape.

Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is a historic cluster of five villages Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore perched on steep cliffs along the Ligurian Sea. Since the Middle Ages, residents shaped the landscape with stone walled terraces for vineyards and olive groves. Today it is protected within Cinque Terre National Park. Its ecosystem features Mediterranean scrub, pine forests, and holm oak. Wildlife includes seabirds, reptiles, and small mammals. Ecological balance relies on maintaining terraces and trails, which face threats from erosion, climate change, and increasing tourism pressure.

Cinque Terre
Cinque Terre is a cluster of five coastal villages in Liguria: Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, when farming communities carved terraces into steep slopes to grow grapes and olives. This cultural landscape, protected as a National Park and World Heritage Site by UNESCO, reflects centuries of human interaction with a rugged coastal environment. The flora includes Mediterranean scrub, holm oak, pine trees, and aromatic plants such as rosemary and thyme. The fauna features seabirds, reptiles, small mammals, and marine species like octopuses and coastal fish. Its ecosystem blends cliffs, vineyards, and biodiverse waters, where traditional practices support sustainability and the long term conservation of natural and cultural heritage.

Monterosso al Mare
Monterosso al Mare is the largest of the five villages within Cinque Terre National Park. Founded in the Middle Ages, it grew as a fishing and farming settlement, guarded by towers against pirates. Its old town and Fegina district reflect historical and touristic development. The ecological setting features terraced vineyards, olive groves, and Mediterranean scrub, supporting birds and reptiles. The coastline blends sandy beaches with cliffs, while trails link preserved landscapes under environmental and cultural protection recognized by UNESCO.
