Corfu, one of the most prominent islands, was shaped by Byzantine, Venetian, French, and British influences, leaving behind historic fortresses, monasteries, and traditional villages surrounded by ancient olive groves. The Ionian ecosystem blends cypress, pine, and oak forests with coastal wetlands and the turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. Its flora features wild orchids, bougainvillea, and aromatic herbs such as thyme and rosemary. Kanali tou Erota
Kanali tou Erota, also known as Canal d'Amour, is one of Corfu's most iconic natural landmarks in the Ionian Sea. This narrow sea channel was sculpted over thousands of years by wind and wave erosion on sandstone cliffs, forming caves and passages with golden and ochre colors. Local legend says that couples who swim through the canal together will remain in love forever. Its coastal ecosystem includes turquoise waters, Mediterranean fish species, marine algae, and seabirds living along the rocky cliffs. The area combines remarkable geological beauty, biodiversity, and strong cultural and tourism significance, making it one of the most visited natural attractions in northern Corfu.
