Coiba National Park

Coiba National Park, located in Panama's Gulf of ChiriquĆ, is one of Central America's most important marine and terrestrial sanctuaries and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It includes Coiba Island and several islets surrounded by coral reefs, mangroves, and biodiversity-rich waters. Formerly a penal colony, its isolation helped preserve pristine ecosystems. The park hosts endemic species, whales, sharks, and dense tropical rainforest, making it a prime destination for diving, scientific research, and responsible ecotourism.

Coiba National Park, located in the Gulf of ChiriquĆ, Panama, is the largest marine protected area in Central America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It includes Coiba Island and vast surrounding marine zones with coral reefs, mangroves, and tropical forests. Formerly isolated as a penal colony, the island preserved largely untouched ecosystems. Its waters host extraordinary biodiversity, including sharks, rays, whales, sea turtles, and pristine coral formations. On land, endemic species thrive within dense rainforests. Coiba National Park

Coiba National Park is located in the Gulf of ChiriquĆ on Panama's Pacific coast and is one of Central America's most important natural treasures. Established in 1991 and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, it protects Coiba Island the largest island in Panama along with numerous surrounding islands and vast marine ecosystems. For much of the 20th century, Coiba served as a penal colony, which limited human settlement and helped preserve its rainforests and coral reefs in near-pristine condition. Today, the park is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, featuring endemic species, primary tropical forests, mangroves, and some of the best-preserved coral reefs in the eastern Pacific. It is a vital refuge for sharks, whales, sea turtles, and seabirds, and stands as a global benchmark for marine conservation and scientific research.
