Bulguksa Temple is one of South Korea's most significant Buddhist landmarks. Major construction began in 751 under the patronage of minister Kim Daeseong and was completed in 774. Recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, the temple is renowned for its elegant stone pagodas, ceremonial bridges, and prayer halls that have been carefully restored after periods of historical conflict. Surrounded by forests of pine, oak, and maple trees, Bulguksa is part of a mountainous ecosystem that supports native birds, small mammals, and diverse insect species of southeastern Korea. Bulguksa Temple is one of South Korea's most significant Buddhist landmarks and a masterpiece of religious architecture from the ancient Silla Kingdom. Its main construction began in 751 under the patronage of the statesman Kim Dae-seong and was completed in 774. The temple complex was designed to symbolize the ideal Buddhist world, harmoniously integrating halls, courtyards, stone stairways, and historic pagodas. Located on the slopes of Mount Toham, the temple is surrounded by temperate forests rich in pine, oak, maple, and numerous bird and insect species. This natural setting supports local biodiversity and enhances the site's peaceful spiritual atmosphere. Throughout its history, Bulguksa has undergone several restorations following fires and periods of conflict. In 1995, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the nearby Seokguram Grotto, recognizing its exceptional historical, artistic, and cultural significance.

Seokguram Grotto, located on Mount Tohamsan near Gyeongju, is a masterpiece of Buddhist art from the Unified Silla period, built during the 8th century. This stone sanctuary contains an impressive Buddha statue and finely carved religious sculptures that demonstrate exceptional craftsmanship. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it represents the spiritual architecture of ancient Korea. Its ecological surroundings include temperate forests, mountain vegetation, and local wildlife, creating a protected natural landscape where cultural heritage, Buddhist philosophy, and the environment exist in remarkable harmony.
