It is composed of islands such as Colón, Bastimentos, Carenero, and Zapatilla, surrounded by mangroves, coral reefs, and tropical rainforest. Its history dates back to indigenous groups like the Ngäbe-Buglé, followed by the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1502. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, Bocas del Toro developed as a banana export center under the influence of the United Fruit Company, attracting Afro-Caribbean and European communities. Today, it is a multicultural destination celebrated for its biodiversity, historical legacy, and relaxed Caribbean lifestyle.
