Its history is deeply connected to upland agriculture and cross-border trade. The ecosystem features subtropical forests, persistent mist, and fertile terraced soils. Flora includes orchids, bamboo, ferns, and evergreen trees. Fauna consists of birds, small mammals, and endemic species adapted to humid high altitude conditions. The rice terraces form a living cultural landscape that integrates traditional farming with biodiversity conservation, though it is increasingly affected by tourism and climate change pressures while remaining one of Southeast Asia's most iconic landscapes today preserved still.

Sapa & Rice Fields
Sapa is a mountainous region in northern Vietnam, renowned for its dramatic rice terraces carved into the slopes of the Hoà ng Liên SƔn range. Historically, it was developed as a French colonial hill station in the early 20th century and is now home to ethnic groups such as the Hmong, Dao, and Tay, who have maintained sustainable agricultural practices for generations. The terraced rice fields represent a sophisticated adaptation to steep terrain, using mountain water systems for irrigation. The ecosystem is highly diverse, featuring subtropical and montane forests with orchids, bamboo, ferns, and medicinal plants. Wildlife includes pheasants, small mammals, amphibians, and reptiles adapted to humid conditions. Frequent mist and cloud cover create a unique microclimate that enhances biodiversity. The interaction between cultural heritage and natural environment makes Sapa a living agricultural landscape and an important ecological heritage site.
