The Potala Palace
The Potala Palace has overlooked Lhasa since the 7th century and was expanded during the 17th century by the Dalai Lama. Once the spiritual and political center of Tibetan Buddhism, it is famous for its terraced architecture, sacred murals, and golden chapels. The surrounding ecosystem belongs to the Tibetan alpine plateau, marked by dry air, high elevations, and hardy vegetation such as junipers, willows, and mountain grasses. Regional wildlife includes yaks, Tibetan antelopes, eagles, and black-necked cranes, all specially adapted to the harsh Himalayan environment.

Rising above Lhasa on Red Hill, it overlooks a high altitude alpine ecosystem marked by dry air, cold winters, and short summers. Nearby vegetation includes Tibetan junipers, mountain willows, and hardy grasslands adapted to thin soils. Regional wildlife features yaks, Himalayan eagles, Tibetan foxes, and small mammals capable of surviving harsh climatic conditions. The Potala Palace
The Potala Palace is one of Tibet's most iconic landmarks and a major symbol of Tibetan Buddhism. Originally founded in the seventh century by King Songtsen Gampo and expanded during the seventeenth century by the Fifth Dalai Lama, it served as the official residence of the Dalai Lamas and the political and spiritual center of Tibet. Built on Red Hill in Lhasa, the palace features impressive white and red walls, golden roofs, sacred chapels, ceremonial halls, and thousands of richly decorated rooms containing murals, manuscripts, and religious treasures. The surrounding ecosystem belongs to the Tibetan Plateau, known for its cold, dry climate, thin high altitude air, and rugged alpine environment. Local flora includes hardy grasses, shrubs, and mountain flowers adapted to harsh conditions. Nearby fauna includes yaks, Tibetan foxes, migratory birds, and small alpine mammals that thrive within this unique Himalayan ecosystem.
