San Juan del Sur is a historic port town located on Nicaragua's southern Pacific coast, in the department of Rivas. Its origins date back to the 19th century, when it gained international importance as a strategic transit point during the California Gold Rush. Thousands of travelers passed through its natural bay using the interoceanic route that connected the Atlantic and Pacific via the San Juan River and Lake Nicaragua. The town has long maintained a strong maritime identity shaped by fishing, trade, and coastal life. Christ the Redeemer of San Juan del Sur 

The Christ the Redeemer of San Juan del Sur is an iconic religious and cultural monument located atop a hill overlooking the bay. Inaugurated in 2011, it was built as a symbol of faith, peace, and protection for the local community and visitors. The tall statue, visible from many areas of the town, has become a spiritual and tourism landmark. Its viewpoint provides sweeping panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and the historic evolution of this coastal port.
