Ardastra Gardens Zoo and Conservation Center

The Ardastra Gardens Zoo and Conservation Center is a historic natural attraction founded in 1937 by Jamaican horticulturist Hedley Vivian Edwards. Originally developed as a tropical garden on marshland, it evolved in the 1950s when flamingos were introduced for breeding due to their decline in The Bahamas. In 1982, Norman Solomon transformed the gardens into the country's first zoo. Today, it blends lush landscapes with conservation efforts, housing diverse species and gaining international recognition for its iconic trained flamingos and educational programs.
