San Blas Island

The San Blas Islands, located off the northeast coast of Panama in the Caribbean Sea, comprise an archipelago of over 365 small islands, primarily inhabited by the Guna indigenous community. The area is renowned for its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and rich marine biodiversity. Historically, the Guna have maintained an autonomous governance system that preserves their language, traditions, and attire despite Spanish colonization and Panamanian influence. The archipelago also held strategic importance during colonial times due to its maritime routes. Today, San Blas attracts sustainable and cultural tourism, offering visitors the chance to engage with the Guna community, explore traditional crafts, and experience a virtually untouched natural environment.
