The Skansen, located on DjurgƄrden Island in Stockholm, is the world's oldest open air museum, founded in 1891 by Artur Hazelius to preserve Swedish traditions and rural life. This historic site features authentic houses, farms, workshops, and buildings relocated from different parts of Sweden, illustrating Scandinavian cultural development from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth century. Its ecosystem combines Nordic forests, gardens, and wetlands that support rich biodiversity. The flora includes birch trees, pine, spruce, and wildflowers adapted to the Baltic climate. The fauna features moose, lynx, brown bears, reindeer, wolves, and Scandinavian birds of prey living in carefully maintained natural habitats. Skansen also serves an important ecological and educational role by promoting environmental conservation and protecting native Swedish species within a unique historical and urban landscape.

Vasa Museum

The Vasa Museum houses the Vasa warship, built in the 17th century for the Swedish navy and sunk in 1628 during its maiden voyage in the Baltic Sea. Salvaged in 1961 after resting underwater for more than three centuries, the ship preserves much of its original wooden structure. The museum exhibits sculptures, artifacts, and naval engineering from the era. Its maritime surroundings reflect the Baltic ecosystem, home to coastal birds, fish, and cold-water algae. The museum also supports research on marine preservation and Scandinavian historical heritage.
