The Abisko National Park, located in the Arctic region of Kiruna, Sweden, was established in 1909 as one of Europe's earliest national parks. Surrounded by mountains, tundra, and Lake TornetrƤsk, it preserves a unique subarctic ecosystem of major scientific importance. Its flora includes Arctic birch forests, lichens, mosses, and alpine wildflowers adapted to harsh climates. Wildlife features reindeer, moose, Arctic foxes, and migratory birds. Known for its dry climate and exceptionally clear skies, Abisko is internationally famous for northern lights observation and Scandinavian wilderness conservation.

The Abisko National Park is located in northern Sweden, near Kiruna, within the Lapland region. Parque Nacional de Abisko features alpine landscapes, glacial valleys, and birch forests. Its flora includes mosses, lichens, and hardy Arctic plants adapted to extreme cold conditions. Wildlife includes reindeer, Arctic foxes, and migratory birds that thrive in the subarctic ecosystem. The ecosystem is defined by long winters, polar nights, and short summers with continuous daylight. It is an important site for climate research and sustainable tourism in Swedish Lapland. It also offers clear skies ideal for viewing the aurora borealis throughout much of the year. And protects fragile ecosystems under strict conservation laws ensuring long term ecological balance there.

Abisko National Park

Established in 1909, it preserves a unique Arctic landscape within the Arctic Circle. The park is famous for its clear skies, making it one of the best places on Earth to observe the Northern Lights. Its ecosystem consists of alpine tundra, glacial valleys, and mountain birch forests. Flora includes lichens, mosses, dwarf birches, and hardy Arctic wildflowers adapted to extreme cold and short growing seasons. Wildlife includes reindeer, moose, Arctic foxes, wolverines, and numerous migratory bird species. Rivers and lakes formed by glacial meltwater support fragile aquatic ecosystems. Abisko is also part of the Laponian UNESCO World Heritage area and serves as an important site for climate and ecological research, highlighting the sensitivity and resilience of Arctic biodiversity.


Lapporten
Lapporten is a U-shaped glacial valley located near Abisko National Park in northern Sweden. It is one of the most iconic landscapes of Swedish Lapland formed by intense glacial erosion during the last Ice Age. Its Arctic ecosystem supports reindeer, Arctic foxes and tundra vegetation adapted to harsh climates. The area holds cultural significance for the Indigenous SƔmi people who have traditionally used it for reindeer herding. Today it is a popular destination for hiking, photography and aurora borealis observation throughout the year in all seasons and scientific research activities.
