Cusco
Cusco, former capital of the Inca Empire, blends colonial architecture with ancestral temples surrounded by Andean mountains. Its ecosystems include dry valleys, montane forests, and cloud-forest edges that host hummingbirds, tanagers, Andean tinamous, and the impressive condor. Attractions such as SacsayhuamƔn, Qorikancha, and the Sacred Valley showcase ancient terraces, traditional villages, and panoramic landscapes. The city's history reflects a rich Inca-Spanish fusion seen in stone streets, lively markets, and cultural celebrations like Inti Raymi, honoring the enduring Andean heritage.

Cusco
The ecosystem surrounding Cusco features inter-Andean valleys, cloud forests, and high-mountain zones that form a complex network of microhabitats rich in wildlife. Humid slopes support native queƱua woodlands, molle trees, and dense shrubs that provide shelter for Andean foxes, tarucas, and agile viscachas that thrive among rocky outcrops. Forest edges and ravines host a remarkable diversity of Peruvian birdlife: giant hummingbirds, Andean thrushes, masked flowerpiercers, and Andean woodpeckers, all adapted to elevations above 3,000 meters. These species rely on high-altitude blossoms, insects, and seasonal wild fruits. Nearby wetlands create temporary refuges for Andean ducks and migratory birds traveling through the region. The interplay of altitude, climate, and vegetation makes Cusco a crucial ecological corridor, sustaining a wide range of Andean fauna.

Cusco
Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, is a city where Andean heritage and centuries of history converge. According to legend, it was founded by Manco CĆ”pac and became the administrative, political, and spiritual center of the vast Tahuantinsuyo. Structures such as the Qoricancha Temple reveal the Incas' mastery of stonework and their deep astronomical knowledge, expressed in perfectly fitted walls aligned with celestial events. Cusco was divided into Hanan and Hurin, representing cosmic balance and social order. At its height, the city served as the hub of the Qhapaq Ćan, an extensive network of sacred roads that linked distant regions of the empire. After the Spanish conquest, many Inca palaces became foundations for colonial buildings, producing a unique architectural fusion. Today, Cusco is the gateway to Machu Picchu and a lively cultural center with traditional markets, ancestral celebrations like Inti Raymi, and artisan neighborhoods that preserve age-old techniques.

Andean Cat
The Andean cat, found in the high mountains near Cusco, is one of South America's rarest felines. It inhabits high-Andean rocky slopes and cold grasslands. The region also hosts birds such as the Andean condor, Andean goose, giant hummingbird, and several flycatcher species. Beyond its wildlife, Cusco offers major historical attractions including SacsayhuamƔn, Qenqo, and the Sacred Valley. Its Inca heritage reflects a deep bond between nature and culture. As a tropical contrast, Costa Rica stands out for its lush rainforests and remarkable biodiversity.
