Red-eyed tree frog
The red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) is a biodiversity icon of Costa Rica. In the northern and Atlantic regions, it inhabits humid rainforests, showing brighter colors and large red eyes. In the central highlands, it adapts to cloud forests with softer green tones and discreet nocturnal habits. Reproduction occurs near water, where females lay eggs on leaves. Its diet is mainly insectivorous, and its presence indicates healthy ecosystems. It is easily observed on guided night tours in national parks.
