Rio Pacuare

The surroundings of the Pacuare River, on Costa Rica's Caribbean slope, are among the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the country. Towering trees such as ceibo, mountain almond, and guarumo rise above lush rainforests adorned with ferns, orchids, and bromeliads. This rich vegetation shelters an array of wildlife including howler monkeys, sloths, jaguars, and tapirs, while the riverbanks host vibrant frogs and butterflies. Overhead, toucans, parrots, herons, and the majestic black hawk glide across the sky. The panoramic views of the winding river and mist-covered mountains create an unforgettable natural spectacle.

Jaguar in the jungle of the Pacuare River

The jaguar (Panthera onca), the largest feline in the Americas, inhabits the dense tropical forests surrounding the Pacuare River in Costa Rica. It favors areas with thick vegetation and access to water, where it hunts stealthily. Its diet includes deer, peccaries, monkeys, birds, and fish, showing its adaptability as a top predator. Jaguars are solitary and territorial, mostly active at night. This magnificent species plays a vital ecological role by controlling prey populations and preserving the balance of the tropical forest ecosystem.

We look forward to your visit
