Monteverde
Monteverde is located in the province of Puntarenas, in the northern part of Costa Rica's Central Valley, at about 1,440 meters above sea level. It's renowned for its Cloud Forest Reserve and rich biodiversity. From San JosƩ, the drive takes approximately 3.5 hours via the Inter-American Highway (Route 1), turning off at Sardinal toward Santa Elena. Although part of the road is mountainous, it offers stunning landscapes and views of the Gulf of Nicoya. Daily public buses and shuttle services are also available from major cities across the country.


Biodiversity
Monteverde stands out for its remarkable biodiversity, hosting over 2,500 plant species, including orchids, ferns, and bromeliads. Its cloud forests shelter more than 400 bird species, such as the resplendent quetzal, and mammals like monkeys, sloths, and small cats. The dense vegetation and humid climate create a unique ecosystem essential for tropical wildlife conservation.
