Commune next to the Great Wall
The commune beside the Great Wall of China in Shuiguan, Hebei Province, developed as a strategic settlement connected to the surveillance and defense of northern China's mountain passes. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, local residents helped maintain walls, watchtowers, and trade routes linking Beijing with frontier territories. The surrounding landscape features forested hills, rocky valleys, and a continental climate supporting pine trees, cypresses, and native shrubs. Today, the commune preserves rural traditions, modest stone-and-brick architecture, and a strong cultural relationship with the military and historical heritage of the Great Wall, which remains one of China's most important national and cultural symbols.

Commune next to the Great Wall
Commune by the Great Wall is an exclusive architectural complex located near the Shuiguan section of the Great Wall of China in Hebei Province. Opened in the early twenty first century, the site was conceived as a cultural and artistic experiment that brought together renowned Asian architects under the leadership of entrepreneur Zhang Xin and Japanese architect Kengo Kuma. The project blends contemporary design with the mountainous landscape surrounding the Great Wall, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its minimalist villas feature natural materials, large glass panels, and geometric structures carefully integrated into the environment. The Shuiguan region is known for its temperate forests, rocky hills, and diverse seasonal biodiversity. For centuries, this area functioned as a strategic defensive corridor in northern China. Today, Commune by the Great Wall symbolizes the connection between historical heritage, modern architecture, and environmental preservation.

Ancient Lotus Pool
The Ancient Lotus Pool, located in Lianchi District, is one of northern China's oldest classical gardens. Its origins date back to the Yuan Dynasty, while it gained cultural importance during the Ming and Qing dynasties as a center for scholars and artistic gatherings. The central pond, filled with blooming lotus flowers during summer, represents purity and harmony in Chinese culture. The site's ecosystem includes willow trees, pine groves, bamboo, and aquatic birds, forming a peaceful natural sanctuary that blends historical heritage, traditional architecture, and urban biodiversity.
