The Convento Hotel

The Convento Hotel, located in the heart of Old San Juan, is one of Puerto Rico's most iconic and historically significant buildings. Originally constructed in 1651 as the Convent of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, it served as the first Carmelite convent for women in the Caribbean. For more than two centuries, it functioned as a religious institution until it was closed in the 19th century following political and administrative changes under Spanish and later American rule. In the mid-20th century, the structure underwent a meticulous restoration to preserve its Spanish colonial architecture, characterized by thick masonry walls, wooden balconies, brick archways, and a tranquil central courtyard. It reopened as a refined boutique hotel, blending historic charm with modern comfort. The guest rooms feature classic furnishings and warm Caribbean details. From its terraces, visitors enjoy sweeping views of San Juan Bay and the colorful cobblestone streets that embody the island's rich cultural heritage.

Hanging out on San SebastiƔn Street

Hanging out on San SebastiƔn Street, in the heart of Old San Juan, is a vibrant tradition blending history, music, and Caribbean culture. This iconic cobblestone street, lined with colorful colonial buildings and wrought-iron balconies, comes alive especially during the San SebastiƔn Street Festival, held since 1954. Bars, restaurants, and plazas fill with salsa, bomba, and plena rhythms as locals and visitors enjoy traditional cuisine and local art. It stands as a symbol of Puerto Rican identity and community spirit.
