Jagua Hotel

The Hotel Jagua, inaugurated in 1959 in Punta Gorda, is a landmark of Cuban modernist architecture linked to Palacio de Valle. Built during the pre-revolution tourism boom, it was later restored and awarded for heritage conservation. Surrounded by Cienfuegos Bay and tropical gardens, its ecosystem features coastal mangroves, seabirds, fish, and Caribbean flora. Nearby Escambray Mountains enhance biodiversity, creating a rich marine-terrestrial environment with notable scenic and ecological value.

Jagua Hotel

Hotel Jagua, in Punta Gorda, faces Cienfuegos Bay and preserves a 1950s architectural style, now operating as Hotel Jagua Affiliated by MeliĆ”, close to the historic center. Its history begins in 1956, when construction started; it opened on December 28, 1959, becoming one of the city's emblematic hotels. Its setting reflects the southern Cuban coastal ecosystem: calm bay waters, mangroves, coral reefs, and marine biodiversity that help protect the shoreline and shape the landscape.

Jagua Hotel

Hotel Jagua, in Punta Gorda, Cienfuegos, was built in the late 1950s and is regarded as one of the city's modernist landmarks; it preserves the feel of that era and stands beside the Palacio de Valle. Its setting overlooks Cienfuegos Bay, with views toward the Escambray mountains. Historically, the hotel is tied to the city's growth as a coastal, architectural, and port-centered urban landscape. The surrounding ecosystem is tropical and coastal, with a semi-humid climate, high humidity, and strong marine influence. Jagua Bay is a semi-enclosed bay of 88 km², linked to the Caribbean Sea by a canal about 3,600 m long. Its northern lobe is more affected by industrial pressure, while the southern side has a more open exchange with the sea, shaping the local environmental balance.

Cienfuegos Botanical Garden

The Cienfuegos Botanica Garden, founded in 1901 by Edwin F. Atkins, originated as a research station to improve sugarcane under Harvard's Tropical Botanical Station. Covering 97 hectares, it is Cuba's oldest and most significant botanical garden, declared a National Monument in 1989. It hosts over 2,000 tropical and subtropical species, including remarkable collections of palms, orchids, bamboo, and ficus. Its ecosystem blends preserved natural areas with introduced exotic species, making it an important center for scientific research, education, and biodiversity conservation.
