SchĆ¼tzenmattpark is one of Basel's most iconic urban parks and an important historical green space. Its origins date back to the 15th century, when the area served as a shooting ground for local marksmen associations. At the end of the 19th century, it was transformed into Basel's first public "Volkspark," designed by city gardener Johann Nikolaus Scholer. Today, the park preserves wide lawns, avenues of century-old horse chestnut trees, and shaded walking paths.
