St. Catherine's Priory
The Priory of Saint Catherine (Roskilde Kloster) originated in medieval Denmark when Dominican friars established a convent in Roskilde around 1231. It became an important religious center connected to the Dominican Order's expansion and the spiritual life of Denmark's former capital. Following the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century, the convent was dissolved, and the complex was gradually converted into civil and residential use. By 1699 it had become a Lutheran foundation for women, a role it has maintained in various forms since then.
