Palais de Rumine
The Palais de Rumine is one of the most important cultural landmarks in Lausanne, built between 1891 and 1906 in Florentine Renaissance style. It was financed through the legacy of aristocrat Gabriel de Rumine and designed by French architect Gaspard AndrƩ. The palace houses museums of archaeology, zoology, geology, and the cantonal university library. Its monumental architecture features columns, loggias, towers, and a grand central atrium. Ecologically, the building supports scientific conservation through natural history collections and exhibitions focused on Alpine biodiversity and the ecosystems of the Canton of Vaud, combining environmental education with Swiss cultural heritage.
