It is carved into tuffeau limestone cliffs overlooking the Loire River, in a site historically associated with monastic life and ancient quarrying. The estate includes an 18th century manor integrated into former monastic cells from the nearby Marmoutier Abbey. Restored as a hotel in the late 20th century, it blends historic architecture with modern comfort. Since 1991 it has been part of Relais & Châteaux. Guests stay in unique cave rooms with river views, experiencing a rare combination of heritage, nature, and refined hospitality in the Loire Valley.

It is set within an 18th century manor house dramatically perched on white tuffeau cliffs overlooking the Loire River. Its historical significance lies in its monastic origins, once linked to the nearby Marmoutier Abbey, whose rock hewn cells were later transformed into luxurious troglodyte guest rooms. It is widely recognized as France's first luxury troglodyte hotel. The property uniquely blends aristocratic architecture with natural cave dwellings carved into the limestone rock, offering a rare historical and immersive experience. The hotel features gourmet and bistronomic restaurants, as well as terraces and a swimming pool with river views.
