The British Colonial Hilton Nassau is a landmark historic hotel located in downtown Nassau, on a site dating back to the 17th century. Originally built in 1901 atop the former Fort Nassau, it stands where the city's first settlement emerged. After a devastating fire in 1922, a new structure opened in 1923, becoming a symbol of colonial elegance. Renamed and renovated several times, it reopened in 1999 under Hilton management, blending heritage with modern luxury. Surrounded by tropical gardens and featuring a private beach, the property reflects nearby coastal ecosystems, including mangroves, marine life, and Caribbean bird species, highlighting the natural richness of the Bahamas.

British Colonial Hilton Nassau

The British Colonial Hilton Nassau is one of the Caribbean's most iconic hotels, located in downtown Nassau on a historically significant site. The land once held Old Fort Nassau in the 19th century and earlier formed part of one of the island's first settlements. In 1901, developer Henry Morrison Flagler built the original Colonial Hotel, which was destroyed by fire in 1922. A new grand British colonial–style structure was completed in 1923, shaping the hotel's enduring architectural identity. Throughout the 20th century, the property changed ownership, notably under Sir Harry Oakes. After a major renovation, it reopened in 1999 under the Hilton brand, blending heritage with modern luxury. Surrounded by tropical gardens and featuring a private beach, the hotel offers a unique combination of colonial history, refined hospitality, and a vibrant coastal ecosystem in the Bahamas.

Fort Fincastle

Fort Fincastle is a colonial fortification built in 1793 by British governor Lord Dunmore to defend Nassau from pirates and potential invasions. Positioned atop Bennet's Hill, it overlooks the harbor and eastern approaches of the island. Constructed from cut limestone and shaped like a paddle-wheel steamer, it housed several cannons of varying calibers. Although it saw little combat, it held strategic importance and later served as a lighthouse until 1817. Afterward, it functioned as a signal station, and today stands as a significant historical and tourist landmark.
