Arenal Volcano

Arenal Volcano, located in La Fortuna, San Carlos, Costa Rica, is one of the country's most iconic volcanoes. Standing at 1,670 meters, it formed around 7,000 years ago. Its last major eruption began in 1968, destroying part of the former village of Tabacón and creating new lava landscapes. Although eruptive activity has decreased in recent years, it remains an active volcano, emitting fumaroles and providing an ideal setting for tourism, birdwatching, hiking, and natural hot springs.

Arenal Volcano

The Arenal Volcano, located in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Alajuela, is one of Costa Rica's most iconic volcanoes. Standing 1,670 meters high, it remained dormant for centuries until its eruption in 1968, which transformed the area into a world-renowned tourist destination. Today, its activity is moderate and it lies within Arenal Volcano National Park. The surrounding ecosystem is rich in biodiversity: toucans, orioles, hummingbirds, and herons soar above the forest, while howler monkeys, sloths, and coatis inhabit its slopes. The park's trails offer a unique experience through tropical rainforest, rivers, and panoramic views of the majestic volcano.

Arenal Volcano & Cerro Chato

The majestic Arenal Volcano and its neighbor, Cerro Chato, form an iconic volcanic pair in La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica. Arenal, once one of the country's most active volcanoes, erupted dramatically in 1968, reshaping the landscape with lava and ash. Since then, it has become a center for geological study and ecotourism. Cerro Chato, an extinct volcano with a beautiful emerald-green crater lagoon, offers lush rainforest trails. The area is home to colorful birds such as toucans, orioles, hummingbirds, and herons. Nearby, natural hot springs heated by Arenal's geothermal activity provide a relaxing retreat surrounded by tropical gardens.

Cerro Chato

Cerro Chato, located next to Arenal Volcano in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, is an inactive volcano standing 1,140 meters tall with a crater lake known as Laguna Cerro Chato. Its last eruption occurred thousands of years ago, leaving a unique rainforest landscape. The area hosts rich biodiversity: birds like toucans, quetzals, and hummingbirds; mammals such as white-faced monkeys, coatis, and tayras; as well as tropical amphibians and reptiles. Trails cross cloud forests reflecting the geological and ecological history of this protected area, making it an ideal destination for ecotourism and wildlife observation.

We look forward to your visit
