Kīpahulu District
Kīpahulu is a historic and natural region located on the eastern coast of Maui, within the surroundings of Haleakalā National Park. It was once an important Hawaiian settlement where communities practiced traditional agriculture, growing taro and other crops through ancient irrigation systems. Its deep valleys, waterfalls, streams, and tropical forests preserve remarkable ecological diversity. The area is known for native vegetation, endemic species, and sacred landscapes shaped by Hawaiian traditions. Kīpahulu reflects the ancestral relationship between people, land, and water, remaining a place of cultural, spiritual, and environmental significance.
