Salvador de Bahía
Salvador de Bahía, founded in 1549 as Brazil's first colonial capital, served as a strategic hub of the Portuguese Empire in the Atlantic. Its historical growth was closely tied to the sugar trade and the forced arrival of enslaved African populations, whose cultural legacy remains central to the city's identity. Salvador lies along the coast of All Saints Bay, surrounded by mangroves, beaches, and coral reefs. Its ecosystem blends Atlantic tropical forests, known as the Atlantic Forest, with rich marine environments. The flora features coconut palms, bromeliads, and mangrove species, while fauna includes birds such as herons and frigatebirds, along with tropical fish, crustaceans, and sea turtles. Urban expansion has impacted these ecosystems, yet conservation initiatives aim to preserve natural habitats and promote ecological balance throughout the region.

Church of Saint Francis
The Church of Saint Francis is one of the finest examples of Brazilian Baroque architecture. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries by the Franciscan order, it is renowned for its lavish interior covered in gold leaf, considered among the richest in Latin America. Its walls are adorned with Portuguese tiles depicting moral and biblical scenes. The church was part of an important convent complex central to Salvador's religious and social life. Over time, it has witnessed urban and cultural changes, preserving its historical and artistic significance as a symbol of Brazil's colonial heritage.
