Its construction began around 2055 BCE and continued for more than two thousand years under various pharaohs, especially during the New Kingdom period. Mainly dedicated to the god Amun-Ra, Karnak served as a major spiritual, political, and cultural center of ancient Egypt. The complex features enormous gateways, obelisks, sanctuaries, chapels, and the famous Great Hypostyle Hall, containing more than 130 monumental columns covered with inscriptions and reliefs. Surrounded by the landscapes of the Nile Valley, the area combines desert environments with fertile river ecosystems, supporting palm trees, birds, and vegetation adapted to the arid climate. Karnak remains a symbol of ancient Egyptian architectural, religious, and artistic achievements, reflecting one of the most remarkable civilizations in human history.
