National Palace Museum

The National Palace Museum, located in Taipei, Taiwan, houses one of the world's most significant collections of Chinese art and historical treasures. Originally established in Beijing in 1925, the museum relocated many of its priceless artifacts to Taiwan during the 1940s to safeguard them from wartime conflicts. Today, it preserves hundreds of thousands of objects representing more than 8,000 years of Chinese civilization, including porcelain, jade, bronze, paintings, calligraphy, and rare manuscripts. Although primarily a cultural institution, the museum is surrounded by landscaped gardens and subtropical hills featuring bamboo, laurels, ferns, flowering shrubs, and native trees. The surrounding environment supports birds such as Taiwan blue magpies, bulbuls, egrets, and numerous butterfly species. Taiwan's diverse ecosystem is characterized by rugged mountains, dense forests, rivers, wetlands, and coastal habitats that sustain remarkable biodiversity, including many endemic plants and animals, making the island one of Asia's richest ecological and natural heritage destinations.

Zhishan Garden

Zhishan Garden, located beside the National Palace Museum in Taipei's Shilin District, is an elegant classical Chinese garden opened in 1995 and inspired by the traditional landscape designs of the Song and Ming dynasties. Featuring graceful pavilions, stone bridges, ponds, and winding pathways, it reflects the harmony between architecture and nature. Its ecosystem includes ornamental fish, aquatic plants, bamboo groves, pine trees, maple trees, seasonal flowers, and many birds and pollinating insects. The peaceful garden preserves Chinese landscape traditions while supporting urban biodiversity and environmental education in Taiwan.
