Nan Madol

Nan Madol, located off the eastern coast of Pohnpei Island in the Federated States of Micronesia, served as the ceremonial and political center of the Saudeleur dynasty between the 13th and 17th centuries. This remarkable complex consists of nearly one hundred artificial islets built with massive basalt columns. Surrounded by mangrove forests, coral reefs, and tropical waters, it supports rich biodiversity including reef fish, mollusks, crustaceans, and seabirds.
