Historically, it served as a place of isolation and spiritual significance, preserving ancient Balinese traditions and sacred temples. Today, it is a leading ecotourism destination because of its exceptional biodiversity. Its vibrant coral reefs provide habitat for oceanic manta rays, colorful tropical fish, and the elusive seasonal ocean sunfish (Mola mola). On land, dry forests, mangroves, and diverse birdlife thrive, including successful conservation efforts for the endangered Bali starling. Nusa Penida Island
Nusa Penida Island, located southeast of Bali, is the largest of the three islands forming the Nusa Penida district and has long held cultural and spiritual significance for the Balinese people. For centuries, it has been home to sacred temples and religious traditions that remain active today. The island is renowned for its dramatic limestone cliffs, white sandy beaches, and crystal clear waters. Its remarkable biodiversity forms part of the Coral Triangle, one of the world's richest marine ecosystems. Vibrant coral reefs support hundreds of coral species, colorful tropical fish, oceanic manta rays, and the elusive ocean sunfish (Mola mola), which appears seasonally in surrounding waters. On land, dry tropical forests and coastal mangroves provide habitat for diverse wildlife, including the endangered Bali starling, reintroduced through conservation programs. These ecosystems play a vital role in protecting shorelines, sustaining native species, and preserving the island's unique ecological balance for future generations.

Peguyangan Waterfall
Peguyangan Waterfall, located on the rugged southwestern coast of Nusa Penida, is both a natural attraction and a sacred spiritual site in Bali. Visitors reach it by descending a long blue staircase carved into the limestone cliffs, leading to a holy spring and a small Hindu temple where purification ceremonies are performed. Although the waterfall itself is relatively small, the dramatic Indian Ocean scenery is spectacular. Coastal vegetation, towering limestone cliffs, and nearby marine habitats create a distinctive ecosystem that supports local biodiversity and highlights the island's ecological importance.
